PHILIP GLASS AS A SOLIST
In words and sound, “Musik im Riesen” on May 25, gives an insight into the work of the American composer Philip Glass, born in 1937, and focuses on his piano music. Up to four pianos at the same time are used in the first part of the concert. Glass’s chamber music is played by US conductor and pianist Dennis Russell Davies, a close friend and longtime musical companion to Glass, Maki Namekawa, Francesco Prode, Emanuele Torquati and Philip Glass himself.
In the second part, Davies conducts the “Tyrol Concerto for Piano and Orchestra” – Maki Namekawa on the piano is accompanied by the Tyrolean chamber orchestra InnStrumenti. Known since 2000 as a musical theme of television broadcasts and cinema spots, but also as music for the award-winning film “Tyrol – Land in the Mountains ̔”, the “Tyrol Concerto” by Philip Glass has become an unmistakable Tyrolean sound. The work was originally commissioned by the Tirol Werbung, which collaborates with the Swarovski Crystal Worlds for this special occasion within the framework of “Musik im Giant” – a concert highlight in the Tyrolean cultural calendar 2018.
The beginning of the concert evening will be accompanied musically by pupils of the Wattens Music School, who will follow up on the “Impulse” masterclass program of the festival, which focuses on the promotion of young musicians.
At 18.00h there will be preliminary talks with the artists.
At 20.00h the concert begins.
Tickets via Ö-Ticket.
